21st Century Partnership plans for next year
The 21st Century Partnership is working towards identifying
the rank of the Middle Georgia area in preparation for a possible Base
Realignment and Closure.
“We need to be prepared,” said Maj. Gen. Robert McMahon
(ret.), the president and CEO of the 21st Century Partnership,
during the quarterly meeting Thursday at the Museum of Aviation.
He said that a BRAC could happen in 2015 or 2017.
The Middle Georgia Regional Commission will carry out the studies,
according to McMahon. They will focus on different aspects in the communities
surrounding Robins Air Force Base. He gave the examples of education, crime
rates, transportation and cost of living.
McMahon stated the studies would look at a broader area than
just Houston County, naming Macon and Fort Valley.
“What we ought to think about is how we grow Robins Air
Force Base,” said McMahon. “Together we can make that happen.”
