2019 Dogwood Festival had something for everyone
The 2019 Perry Dogwood Festival opened in downtown on Perry Saturday morning. Streets were full of excited vendors, shoppers and sightseers. Mayor Pro Tempore Randall Walker and Chamber of Commerce Chairman Dey Palmer kicked the event off with opening remarks, followed by the official festival ribbon cutting with assistance from the 2019’s Dogwood queen’s court.
On behalf of the City of Perry and the Mayor and Council, Randall Walker offered a hearty welcome to Perry’s visitors and event attendees. “I can’t thank all of you enough for coming and enjoying the 31st annual Dogwood Festival. We’re delighted that you have chosen to be here,” Walker said.
The event sponsors were also introduced and applauded. Among these sponsors were Coldwell Banker, Ultimate Air Dogs, The Bank of Perry, Georgia Power and Graphic Packaging Int.
Chairman Palmer also extended thanks to the President of the Chamber, Darlene McClendon along with her staff and volunteers who were all responsible for making everything possible.
“I wanted to thank Darlene, her staff and all of the volunteers that have come out and all the hard work that they have put on behind the scenes,” Palmer said. “We appreciate all of their hard work and would not be able to make this possible without them.”
Dance teams from surrounding elementary and primary schools performed routines for the crowd’s enjoyment.
The Ultimate Air Dogs Competition, sponsored by Odoban was also in present at the festival. Dogs jumped over 20 feet into a pool as a part of the event. The Hot Air Balloon Glow at the Georgia National Fairgrounds ended the festival. Festival attendees had the opportunity to meet balloon pilots, walk inside one of the balloons and see the three patriotic balloons. Tethered rides were canceled due to high winds, and Sunday’s events were canceled as well due to severe weather.
