WRALL 7-8 celebrate big win

The WRALL West 7/8 year old team won two championships, District 5 and the Southern Region,  to earn a chance to play in the inaugural Little League 7/8 State Championship Game held at the Southeastern Region Little League field, referred to by all local little leaguers as “The Big Field”.  The State tournament began with a 11-12 loss to Murphy -Campbell on Saturday, June 22.  Athens defeated Murphy-Campbell 12-6 in the second game of the tournament.  WRALL then had to defeat Athens by at least 7 runs in order to play in the championship game on Sunday, June 23.  With amazing pitching from Ty Shelton and Jake Canterbury, WRALL held the hard-hitting Athens team to 4 runs and defeated them 11-4, sending WRALL’s 7/8 year old team to “The Big Field”.  On Sunday WRALL played nearly flawless baseball with great pitching from Colby Fowler, Nik Buckner, and Chaz Sturn and hot bats from Cooper Avery who went 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI’s, Andrew Dunford who led the team going 4 for 5 with 4 RBI’s, and  Jake Canterbury who was 3 for 3 with 1 RBI.  At the end of 6 innings, the boys from WRALL took home the State Championship with a score of 14-12 against Athens.  Both teams fought hard and played extremely well throughout the game.
