Students get a Christmas surprise
The Houston County
Crossroads Center hosted a “Holiday Giveaway of Books” at Pearl Stephens
Elementary School on Dec. 14.
Crossroads students and
staff delivered 200 sets of books to 200 Pearl Stephens Elementary fourth and
fifth grade students as Christmas gifts.
The event is the brainchild of Crossroads Media Specialist Michael Lashley, who
worked closely with Social Worker Jennifer Walker to make the vision a reality.
“I wanted our students to learn to give back to the community and at the same
time, help address illiteracy, which is one of the biggest obstacles facing our
community,” commented Lashley. “This project allowed our alternative school
students to work toward something for someone else. Our principal, Dr. Ronnie
Walker, wholeheartedly supported this effort. Our students and staff reached
deep into their pockets, and with the help of our fabulous administrators and
social worker, our Crossroads Cougars will experience the joy of giving to the
younger children. It is my hope that this simple but memorable act will lead
others to continue to support their community.”
