Snowflake project sends smiles: David A. Perdue students send 600+ snowflakes to Sandy Hook

Houston County, GA – David

A. Perdue Elementary students recently sent more than 600 paper snowflakes to

the new Sandy Hook Elementary School building in Newtown, Conn. They wanted to

welcome students back from their winter break.

Art teacher Mary May learned of the effort being organized to make the new

school building a cheerful, happy environment for students returning to school

for the first time after the school shooting in December. After the winter

school break, the children of Sandy Hook Elementary began the year at a new

school.

In order to make this transition as pleasant and welcoming as possible, a

Parent-Teacher Organization in Connecticut spearheaded a special “Snowflake

Project” to adorn the walls of the new school.  People around the

country were encouraged to make one-of-a-kind snowflakes and send them to the

school by Jan. 12, 2013. Parent volunteers worked to ensure that the students

were welcomed back by a winter wonderland with the entire school decorated with

as many unique snowflakes as possible.

Robins, GA.
