An award showing that the C-130 team at Robins Air Force Base is “the best of the best” was presented Thursday.

“Receiving this award (Robert T. Mason) puts them at the top,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Maintenance Policy and Programs John Johns.

More than 20 depot maintenance facilities competed for the award, stated Johns. He said the reason the team received the award is a combination of a “reduction in turn-around times and cost reductions and quality of live improvements.”

During his speech, Johns told the crowd that gathered for the presentation of the Robert T. Mason Award, “It signifies that you are the best depot maintenance in the Department of Defense.”

The statement was greeted with cheers from the audience.

According to a release, the team had a 100 percent on-time delivery, returned 64 aircraft, cut flow days from 102 to 69 days and reduced in-progress work from 41 to 36 aircraft.

Since it is the first time the award has been given to the base, Brig. Gen. Cedric George, who is the commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, said, “I can guarantee one thing, it won’t be the last time.”
