PERRY — The president of the Perry Chamber has a new designation on her resumé, part of a statewide effort to support and empower the business community.

Maggie Schuyler, Perry Chamber of Commerce President/CEO, was appointed to the Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives board of directors for a one-year term. She joins 17 chamber professionals on the board and a four-person executive committee.

Schuyler said she was appointed by Heath Taylor, this term’s executive committee chair and Dublin-Laurens County Chamber of Commerce President/CEO. She was asked to join the board in February and started her new role in July after approval from the Perry Chamber.

“I was very honored to be asked. Then I went to my executive board to make sure they, of course, were okay with me serving, because I don’t want to take any time away from my chamber in our community. They were more than happy to have me serve on the board, and it came into effect on July 1,” Schuyler said.

As a member of the GACCE board, Schuyler will serve alongside representatives from 12 unique regions and vote on decisions that affect chambers statewide.

“Every region has its own representative, but then you have these additional one-year appointments who will be able to serve on the board and make executive decisions,” she said. “We’ll be able to vote and make decisions on behalf of our chamber, our community, to try to help make sure that chambers of commerce are being efficient and are getting the resources that they need in the state of Georgia.”

So far, Schuyler is jumping into her new role at a conference in St. Simons Island. She said she was thrilled to get started and mentioned the importance of her professional development and representing the area.

“By being able to serve on the board, it’s allowing me to represent the Perry area and the Houston County community as well. So when we need resources, when we need help, when we need some assistance for our chamber, we now are able to sit at the table and work with other chamber of commerces around the state, to make sure that we’re doing the absolute best we can for our members and our community. So I was very excited,” she said.

Overall, she said she is thankful for the opportunity and looking forward to the future.

“I’m just excited to be able to represent, to be able to bring my staff and my community along to GACCE, and to see all the great things that the organization does for chamber of commerces,” Schuyler said.

According to Schuyler, the GACCE is an independent organization whose mission is to engage, educate and empower Chamber of Commerce professionals and the business community.

“It works not only with the executives, like myself, but it also works with staff, as well as members of the business community and community organizations who are allies, community partners,” she said.
