Perry Kiwanis honors more local student athletes

Each month during this school year, the Perry Kiwanis Club

recognized a scholar athlete from Perry High School and Westfield. The students

honored excel not only academically, but athletically as well.

Abby Booth was an 11th grader Perry High School and the

daughter of John and Michelle Booth. She is a member of the Perry cross country

team and has won numerous awards including: fifth in the State Cross Country

meeting in 2011 and ninth in 2012 as well as county and region champion in the

1600-meter run and the 800-meter dash in 2013. Abby also participated in the

state track meet in April.

She started competitive running in the seventh grade. She

hopes to be awarded a college scholarship to continue running on a collegiate

team when she graduates. She will be attending several running camps this

summer.

James Beeland, a graduated senior at The Westfield School,

holds a 4.0 GPA and ranks fourth in his class. He is involved in several clubs

including Senior Beta Club, Key Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In

addition, James is an active member of the Perry United Methodist Church youth

group. He enjoys playing basketball and golf.

While lettering four years in basketball, James earned a

spot on the GISA All-Region team his junior and senior years, while also making

the GISA All-State Honorable Mention team his senior year. He was a starter his

junior and senior years and was chosen as co-captain his senior year.

James has played on the varsity golf team for five years

while being the team low-medalist for the past four years. He has played his

way onto the GISA All-Region Team his freshman, sophomore, and junior years,

while also earning a position on the GISA All-State Team his junior year. Also,

he was the Region Low Medalist his freshman and junior years.

James will be attending Georgia Southern University in the

fall and plans to major in accounting.
