The Perry Kiwanis Club recently awarded its yearly scholarships to two local students. This scholarship is designed to pay $1,500 per year over the next four years. Students are selected on a basis of scholastic achievement, extracurricular activity and financial need. They are required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average and be a full time student to maintain the award all four years.

Started in the early 1980’s by Kiwanis Club member A. G. Hendricks, the fund has grown over the years through donations, gifts and fundraising projects of the Perry Kiwanis Club.

Seth Schofill is a 2013 graduate of Perry High School where he has been engaged in academic achievement as well as community involvement. He has dedicated many hours in Houston County to the Perry Volunteer Outreach, Loaves & Fishes and local Vacation Bible School programs. Seth’s industrious nature can be seen through his efforts and will continue to be influential as he attends the Georgia Institute of Technology, pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering.

Jessica Grace Springer has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the last four years at The Westfield School. She has been nominated for the Golden Eagle Award and the National Honors Society, and has received the President’s Education Awards Program in Outstanding Academic Excellence. She has been a member and officer in numerous clubs including Beta Club, Key Club, Tri-hi-y, Culinary Arts Club, Foreign Language Club and Prayer Club. She has been selected for Honor Choir, All-State Chorus and All-Select Choir. Also, as a state champion, Grace has participated in girls’ trio for the Westfield literary team for four years. In the fall Grace will be pursuing a degree in early childhood education with a minor in math at Georgia College in Milledgeville.
