Perry considers new ordinance

Perry’s city council members heard from two residents

concerning a proposed ordinance that deals with the parking of trailers,

recreational vehicles and commercial vehicles next to houses.

The proposed ordinance reads, “Recreational vehicles shall

be permitted if not parked or stored in the front yard or a side yard which

abuts a street, except as permitted in Section 75.4.”

The change of “a side yard which abuts a street” brought Ron

Wilder and Tom Collins to city hall Tuesday.

Collins told the council he would have to destroy several

trees in his back yard in order to park his camper there. He also mention he’s

had his campers parked in the same location for around 15 years without anyone

complaining.

“There is no benefit for having this ordinance changed,”

Wilder stated during the public hearing after briefly explaining to council

members his situation.

Because it was a first reading of the ordinance, the council

took no action.

The council passed an ordinance that outlaws recreational

vehicles, boat trailers and utility trailers from being parked in the street

rights of way.

In other business, septic tank haulers cannot use the city’s

wastewater facility effective April 1.

Sharon Kelly, the project manager with ESG Operations, asked

that the use of the facility by septic tank haulers be cancelled because

certain haulers have not followed several rules in the policy.
