Perry City Council members voted to change an ordinance that

deals with “brown bagging” during their regular meeting Tuesday.

According to City Manager Lee Gilmour, the council approved

a new definition of “brown bagging” and adopted a new section.

The new definition states that brown bagging means someone

could bring alcoholic beverages into the business that holds a liquor license

or is eligible for such a license “for the purpose of drinking such alcohol

beverages at such establishments.”

The new section allows establishments that hold a license

for the sale and consumption of alcohol or are eligible for a license, but do

not have one, to purchase a daily or annual permit allowing brown bagging.

Businesses must obtain this permit in order for brown

bagging to be allowed.
