Perry Area Chamber names April’s top students
Chloe Webb – Veterans High School
Chloe is active with Joy Ministries, Second Baptist Church’s ministry for special needs children. Chloe also enjoys painting, drawing and reading. Chloe has a 3.9 GPA. She will graduate in May with fourth-year honors and as a four-year member of BETA club. She’s also been involved in FFA and Pep Club. Chloe has been on the varsity volleyball team for the past three years and served this year as team captain. In the fall she plans to attend Armstrong Atlantic State University for two years and then transfer to pursue a degree in marine biology. Chloe is the daughter of John and Debbi Webb.
Adam Cyr – Perry High School
Adam is a four-year member of the Panther Regiment Band, playing the alto sax, and serving as first chair for four years and co-section leader for his junior year. In his senior year Adam served as Drum Major. Adam is a member of the National Honor Society. He is also an active member of Perry United Methodist Church, serving as a camp counselor for their summer camps. He has also served as a mission trip volunteer. He will attend Georgia Southern University to study music education and march in the Georgia Southern Marching Band.
Adam is the son of Dave and Mary Cyr.
Peyton Marshall – The Westfield School
Peyton is involved in numerous activities and is the Salutatorian for the Class of 2013. She has been the president of the Culinary Arts Club, Prayer Club, and Tri-Hi-Y. She has been active in student government and represented Westfield at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program. Peyton participates in the academic bowl, math team, and debate team. She won third in state in debate and received the top speaker award. Peyton is involved in literary where she participates in duo oral interpretation and argumentative essay. Peyton receives top academic awards each year in all academic subjects and received the Wofford Scholar, Presbyterian Achievement Award, Georgia Certificate of Merit, and the Federick Douglass and Susan B Anthony Award as a junior. Peyton is also very involved in the community.
She teaches first and second graders each week at the Presbyterian Church. She is an excellent tutor and has helped several students without pay throughout high school. Recently, Peyton has decided to attend Rhodes College where she has received the Taylor Fellowship in Physics, the Hon Scholarship and a Rhodes grant. Peyton is the daughter of Jim and Tracie Marshall.
Sam Nunn Citizenship Award
2013 Chamber Chair Beth McLaughlin also presented the winners of the 2013 Sam Nunn Citizenship Award. Brandon Herrin and Abigail Phillips, both of Kings Chapel Elementary, received a plaque and cash reward during the ceremony held at the Chamber on April 25. The students were chosen based on proven displays of good citizenship through community service or extra-curricular activities. The students must obtain passing grades, currently be a student in grade 3, 4, or 5, have a recommendation from their teacher, and write an essay with their application.
