Paying homage to women of distinction
As part on Women’s History Month, the Houston County Library
system honored 10 women Thursday.
Jennifer Lautzenheiser, the circulation manager for the
library system, said this was the first-ever reception held for the women of
distinction. She said the 10 women were chosen by their peers for their
outstanding service and good deeds in the community.
The women chosen for the honor are: Tannya Duncan, Alfreda
Fluellen-Hall, Judy Golden, Patricia Johnson, Dorothy Lear, Ellie Loudermilk,
Linda Mason, Fenika Miller, Doretha Rivers and LeAnn Tuggle.
Lee Ford-Faherty was the keynote speaker at the reception.
Faherty is a paralympic athlete and gold medalist. She has volunteered her time
to instruct and inspire local youth to attain their dreams.
Alvalyn Pope served as a guest speaker as well. Pope is a
distinguished servant with numerous community support activities to her credit.
Lautzenheiser said, “These women are doing amazing things in
our communities and deserved to be recognized.”
