Panthers football coach outlines expectations for new season

Football season is right around the corner, and coaches are eager to see their players on the field as well as meet the team’s goals for the new season. The Perry Panthers Head Coach Kevin Smith has goals and plans of his own for this season.

Smith, in his sixth year of being head coach, plans to raise the bar of excellence even higher than last season and to follow-up his 11-2 record he set the year prior. He aims to win against each rival school one by one and to compete for the state championship.

Currently though, the coach is not focused on “down the road” events like future games, but rather focused on “getting better today,” improving his team one step at a time and shifting his focus once gameweek arrives.

However, the coach’s intentions are not only focused on football games. His hopes for his team are to continue the “coffee bean” culture of Perry Football and to teach excellence and leadership to each of his players. Smith’s hope is “to build good young men” that spread positivity in every environment they are in and to show integrity and leadership not only in the locker room but out in the world as well.

His philosophy is that “if we build enough good young men, we’re going to win all the football games we want to win.” He hopes that the culture will develop in his team, the school and the community, and that it will follow his players after they leave high school. Smith emphasized that building character and teaching his players to be good men in and out of high school is the number one priority of Perry Football and that success will follow shortly following.

Coach Smith’s intentions and hopes for his team are more than just football. He knows that as his players grow, each game will be conquered, one by one. The Perry community is eager to see what he can accomplish this season.
