Not much sun, but a lot of fun for golfers teeing up for Volunteer Medical Clinic of Houston County

Special to the Journal

It was not a day in the sun on Saturday, but that didn’t stop the golfers from showing up to play in “A Day in the Sun” Charity Golf Tournament held at the Landings Golf Course. The money raised is for the Volunteer Medical Clinic of Houston County.

With a full field of 84 golfers, the weather never did stop raining, but that didn’t dampened the spirits of the golfers playing for a great cause here in Houston County. More than $20,000 was raised Saturday and all of the proceeds will be used at the clinic.

Coordinator Kim Greer of Houston Healthcare was pleased with the turnout of doctors, players, board members and others who helped make possible this tournament a huge success.

“Even with the continual rain all day, no one complained,” Greer said. “It was a good day for The Volunteer Medical Clinic with the amount of money raised.”

Houston County Volunteer Medical Clinic is a non-profit facility providing free medical care to working, uninsured citizens of Houston County.

The doctors, nurses, technicians and administrative personnel all volunteer their time to provide primary care services two evening per week.

The clinic depends on donated funds to provide free, quality, compassionate medical care to those who have no other resources for healthcare. The Volunteer Medical Clinic offers primary, non-emergency, medical care on an appointment only basis.
