Community “Back to School Bash” gives back in a big way, hundreds receive supplies

The Perry Housing Authority held a Community Back to School Bash Friday morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Perry High School’s old gym. The event succeeded in giving out over 200 book bags, with vendors donating school supplies to children in the community. Toya Harris, executive director of the Perry Housing Authority, was excited about the result of the event.

“We gave out over 200 book bags, we had 26 vendors there and it was awesome,” said Harris. “We received lots of donations from the community and lots of vendors came out.”

Not only was the event a success, but also children enjoyed a dance contest, music and a talk about how to deal with bullying.

Harris is thankful for the support for this year’s event and is already looking forward to next year’s community bash. She encourages anyone interested in the event to contact her for more information.

“I want to thank everyone that came out and showed up for our community bash,” said Harris. “This was a second annual event and we are looking forward to our third annual one. If you are looking to be a vendor or can help with our next year event, please don’t hesitate to give me a call I’m looking forward to next year.”
