New Downtown Development programs to help businesses

The City of Perry’s Downtown Development Authority unveiled

two programs that are aimed at helping businesses in the downtown district

Tuesday.

Businesses in the city’s downtown district can now apply for

a matching media grant that will help fund the business marketing efforts

through advertising. According to Mary Beth Bass, the economic development

coordinator, the memorial bench program will pay for the grant program.

On Tuesday, David Grossnickle, the owner of Chick-fil-A in

Perry, dedicated a bench to his father.

“He was an awesome dad,” said Grossnickle as he uncovered

the name on the bench.

Grossnickle, who is a member of the DDA, told those gathered

for the unveiling that the bench can be dedicated to anyone.

“It doesn’t have to be in memory of somebody,” he said.

The matching media grant has a maximum award of $250, which

is 50 percent of the total cost for the advertising campaign.

The city’s existing facade grant program also received an

upgrade. Bass explained that the facade grant program would pay 50 percent of

the project costs. The maximum award amount is $1,000. This program is also a

reimbursement grant program, meaning the business or property owner would have

to pay the up-front costs then submit a request for reimbursement.
