Miller’s Miliner County Teacher of the Year

The Houston County School System honored its six Employees of the Year and 38 Teachers of the Year during the system’s Opening Session held July 25. Amanda Miliner of Miller Elementary School is the 2013-2014 Houston County Teacher of the Year.

The four finalists for systemwide Teacher of the Year are: Lisa Carson, Huntington Middle; Marla Garnto, Northside Elementary; Brette Callaway, Pearl Stephens Elementary; and Christie Wall, Veterans High.

Employees of the Year are: Maintenance Employee of the Year – Steve   Langston; Custodian of the Year – Albert Simon, Feagin Mill Middle School; Warehouse Employee of the Year – Antwan Brooks; School Nutrition Manager of the Year – Annette Pender, Perry Middle School; Bus Driver of the Year – Justo Montana; and Bus Monitor of the Year – Pearl Broadnax.

Gifts and cash awards valued at approximately $45,000 were presented to 44 honorees courtesy of sponsors. Coca-Cola and Pepsi provided beverages free of charge for all the attendees.

The six Employees of the Year each received gifts valued at about $970. Each of the 38 Teachers of the Year received gifts valued at about $600. And each System finalist received additional gifts valued at $2,600.

As the Houston County Teacher of the Year, Miliner received gifts valued at a total of close to $13,500. As the system winner, additional gifts presented to her included cash awards and a new Honda Accord for the year.
