The gavel was passed on once again at this year’s Perry

Chamber of Commerce meeting held at the Perry Arts Center.

Rob Brooks passed the gavel on to Beth McLaughlin. McLaughlin was named the

2013 chairman at the annual meeting held on Thursday. She is the public

relations representative for the Houston County Board of Education.

McLaughlin gladly accepted the gavel from Brooks and told

members and guests that Brooks would be a hard act to follow.

“I look forward to representing the chamber and the

the 2013 executive board members as well as the board of directors.

Immediate Past Chairman is Rob Brooks, Vice-Chair is Marc Martin,

Treasurer is Grace Kirksey and legal counsel is Kellye Moore.

Also at the meeting Kathy O’Neal was named Volunteer of the

Year.

Flint Energies was named Business of the Year. Flint was

commended on its excellent customer service as well as being a big supporter of

the Perry Chamber.

Glen Anderson was named 2012 Diplomat of the Year. Anderson

was commended on his commitment to the program. It was noted that he hasn’t

missed a meeting, he is at nearly every function and he goes above and beyond

in visiting chamber members and businesses in town. The mission of the diplomat

program is to increase the retention rate of new and existing members by

communicating with members to reinforce the benefits of chamber membership.

Out of all the awards given the most prestigious award is

the Seabie Hickson Award.

For more than 30 years the chamber has been giving the Seabie Hickson award to

a citizen or group of citizens of the Perry Area.

This year the award was presented to Shelia Jones and Ellie

Loudermilk for their dedication and service to the community.
