From Staff Reports
On Friday afternoon, a Houston County Sheriff’s deputy shot
a man on Moody Road after the investigator in charge said the man was ramming
his truck into two sheriff’s vehicles while they were trying to conduct a
traffic stop on him.
Rodney Wall, Special Agent in Charge of the GBI in Perry,
said Daniel David Boghosian, 27, of Warner Robins was shot after the law
enforcement officers attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation on Hwy.
96 near Bonaire Elementary School.
Boghosian allegedly led police on a pursuit that continued
on Moody Road, Sandy Run Road, Hwy. 247, back to Hwy. 96 and Moody, where the
chase ended after additional deputies arrived and assisted in stopping
Boghosian.
The pursuit lasted approximately 20 minutes, according to
reports.
According to a press release from the GBI, after deputies
had stopped the vehicle, Boghosian started ramming his truck into two Houston
County Sheriff’s vehicles as the deputies were exiting their cars. A Houston
County Sheriff’s deputy fired three rounds at Boghosian, two of which struck
him.
Boghosian was transported by EMS to the Medical Center of
Central Georgia in Macon, where he is currently listed in critical
condition.
The deputy who fired the shots is currently on administrative
leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.
The GBI Perry office is conducting the investigation at the
request of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is currently
ongoing and upon completion it will be provided to the Houston County District
Attorney to determine if the use of force was warranted.
Moody Road was closed from Hwy. 96 to Feagin Mill Road for
several hours.
The Georgia State Patrol assisted in the incident.
