Lynn officially sworn in as Perry Police Chief
Although Perry’s police chief has been on the job for about
six weeks, he was sworn into office Monday night at the New Perry Hotel.
“The City of Perry has gained an amazing (chief),” said
District Attorney George Hartwig.
Perry’s city council members voted to hire Steve Lynn in
December after the former Chief of Police George Potter retired.
“He is a man of high morals and high integrity,” stated
Sheriff Cullen Talton before Lynn was sworn in. “We appreciate what you’ve done
in the past and look forward to working with you in the future.”
Judge Edward Lukemire called Lynn a “class A fellow” and
informed the gathered group of about 80 people that becoming a chief of police
was “a dream of his (Lynn).”
“At the end of the day, law enforcement isn’t a job,” stated
Lukemire. “It’s a calling.”
After Lynn was worn into office, he thanked Potter for
“handing off such a good department,” and he thanked the men and women who work
in the department.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Lynn said, who explained
that it was not because the department was not well run, but because it takes
“a lot of work to run a police department right.”
