Houston County native performs for music industry titans, goes to Hollywood

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

“You’re going to Hollywood”-

That’s what Warner resident Summer Cunningham heard from

American Idol judges Wednesday night.

Cunningham, 20, auditioned in front of the panel of judges

and sang “lean on me” that ultimately earned her a spot in Hollywood.

After performing for Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj, Cunningham’s audition took what Ryan Seacrest described as an  “unprecedented turn.” Urban asked Cunningham where she saw herself as a singer, to which she replied that she had “done the country thing” and was looking for something else. This simple phrase sparked a dramatic debate between the four music industry titans that eventually led to Minaj storming off stage.
