Houston County High School FFA officers were one of 31 FFA chapters across Georgia that attended the 2013 Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) Conference. Held July 16-18, at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center near Covington, the COLT theme this year was “Pass the Torch.”

The FFA members from Houston County High who attended were (from left, front row): Jacie Babb, Grace Thomas, Callie Cook, Skyler Alexander, (back row) Ashley Woods, Brieghton Rumell, Makayla Fulton and Ronnie Thomas, FFA Advisor. The officers attended workshops focused on professionalism, mentoring others, overcoming challenges and increasing involvement. The students also began planning their chapter’s Program of Activities for the school year and learned strategies for time management, creativity and communication. They were encouraged to make an impact in their school and community and gained ideas for member recruitment, fundraising, and promoting the FFA.

“COLT Conference is an excellent way for chapter officers to kick-off their year of service,” says State FFA President, Andy Paul. “It’s amazing to watch them grow and form friendships that will last a lifetime. We challenge these officers to work together and empower the other members of their chapter.”
