Superintendent of Schools Robin Hines has been asked to serve on the Vision for Public Education in Georgia Steering Committee. The goal of this committee is to improve student achievement and build trust and support for public schools in local communities.

The Vision Project is a statewide joint initiative of the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) and the Georgia Superintendent of Schools Association (GSSA).

The Project was initiated in 2009 to develop a unifying vision for public education in Georgia.

Stanley DeJarnett, Executive Director for the Vision for Public Education in Georgia, told Hines “This year is an important one for us, and your experience and insight would be invaluable as we move forward.”

The team’s vision for its work is that “public education in Georgia will provide all children an equitable and excellent education that prepares them for college, career, and life.”

The plan is divided into seven education components:

1. Early Learning and Student Success

2.Teaching and Learning

3.Teaching and Learning Resources

4. Human and Organizational Capital

5.Governance, Leadership, and Accountability

6. Culture, Climate, and Organizational Efficacy

7.Financial Resources.

“I am looking forward to working on this committee to promote and advance public education,” commented Hines. “The Vision Project recommendations are well-researched and can help districts across the state transform the educational experience for all of our students.”

The Vision Project was guided by a 30-member planning team composed of 15 school superintendents and 15 members of boards of education from across Georgia, to include Skip Dawkins, Houston County District 3 representative and past GSBA president.

Hines will attend his first committee meeting Sept. 23-24 in Athens.

He and the other members will work to develop a communication strategy.
