Houston County High School seniors Mori Crocker and Will Freeman
have been designated national scholar semifinalists by the National Merit
Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Mori was recently selected as a National
Achievement Finalist, and Will was named a National Merit Finalist. Both of
these are from the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Mori is a member of Tri-M and the National Honor Society.
She is an active volunteer for the Houston Medical Center and other community
service projects. A section leader for the Black and Silver Brigade marching
band for the past two years, she also performs with the symphonic band. Mori
plans to attend Georgia Tech and study biochemistry. She is the daughter of
Emory and Sherry Crocker and sister of Emory “JR” Crocker.
Will has been actively involved with the Houston County High
Theater Department for all four high school years to include vice president of
the Thespian Troupe. He was involved in soccer for his first two years of high
school and has joined the ensemble his senior year. A member of Beta Club,
President of the National Honor Society, and Treasurer of the Tri-M Society, he
also serves as a peer tutor.
In addition, Will has participated in the Governor’s Honors
Program in chemistry, the Warner Robins Youth Leadership Program, the State
Student Advisory Council and the National Student Leadership Conference at the
University of Maryland. He is an Optimist Student of the Month and a UGA Merit
Scholar.
Will is also the valedictorian and STAR Student for the
Class of 2013 at Houston County High School. He recently won STAR Student for
the Houston County School district and Region 6. He plans to study medicine but
has not decided which college to attend. Will is the son of William and Sheila
Freeman and the brother of Sarah and Timothy.
Semifinalists must present a record of high academic
performance throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high
school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm their
PSAT/NMSQT performance.
