Cindy Flesher, Houston County Board of Education assistant superintendent for school operations, began her service as President of the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL) this week. She was sworn into office on July 15, during the annual GAEL Conference.

“Serving in this capacity for the GAEL organization is quite an honor,” said Flesher. “I look forward to working collaboratively with all of the affiliates and the GAEL staff. My primary goal is to continue to build upon the strong foundation established by GAEL to promote public education and to provide Georgia’s educational leaders with networking opportunities and leadership development.”

As GAEL president, Flesher will preside at meetings and assist with preparing programs for the annual meeting. Her duties also include: appoint committees not otherwise identified; serve as chairman of the board of directors and the executive committee; call any meetings deemed necessary; serve as an ex-officio member on all committees; and name a parliamentarian when needed.

GAEL provides unity of Georgia school leadership groups. It is a statewide “umbrella” organization, composed of six professional affiliate associations for school leaders.

Membership also includes other school leaders, such as assistant and associate superintendents, assistant principals, college and university administrators, state Department of Education administrators, and other school leadership personnel.

Membership is continuous for one year, beginning on July 1 and ending June 30.
