Fire demolishes Centerville home
Three people escaped from a Centerville house on Sunday
before the house burned to the ground.
According to Houston County Fire Chief Jimmy Williams, the
fire call came in on Sunday around 3:20 p.m. According to neighbors, the Amelia
Drive home was engulfed in flames in a matter of minutes.
The homes on both sides of 114 Amelia Dr. were damaged in
the fire as well. Williams said the wind was blowing at least 20 mph causing
the fire to spread before firefighters could extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Capt. Jon Holland with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office
noted that a call came into 911 about a fire that “was set” at 124 Amelia Dr.
Holland said there wasn’t any damage at the 124 Amelia Dr. fire and said that
house is still under construction. He said it is being investigated as a
suspected arson. Holland said a passer-by put out the small fire.
Holland said the two fires are being investigated
separately. He continued to say, “It is highly unusual to have two incidents
such as these right next to each other and within minutes of one another.”
No one was injured in either incident.
