FCCLA Secret Santa Project: Brighten Christmas for One Family
What does
a basketball, dump truck, building blocks, pajamas, coloring book, football,
train, jackets, jeans, socks, sweaters, and blankets mean to an infant, toddler
or adult parents? Well it could
mean the difference between a wonderful or not so great Christmas morning for
one family in Houston County.
This
year, the FCCLA Chapter adopted a needy family by helping to make their
Christmas a little brighter and easier on their budget. Chapter Members
purchased toys and clothes for two children and also clothing for both adult
parents for
the four-person family in our community. Bonaire Middle School FCCLA Chapter received some of the items for this
project from FCCLA Chapter Members and Bonaire Middle School students, teachers
and staff members such as an electric heater, blankets, toys and footie pajamas
for this family. For some families, just
making it through the week or month can be very difficult, especially with the
current economy. This is one way the Bonaire Middle School FCCLA Chapter’s
Secret Santa Project is helping one family at a time during this holiday season
with their Community Service Project.
The FCCLA Community
Service program guides students to develop, plan, carry out, and evaluate
projects that improve the quality of life in their communities. Community
Service helps young people build skills for family, career, and community
roles; provides youth-centered learning experiences related to Family and
Consumer Sciences education; and encourages young people to develop the
positive character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility,
fairness, caring, and citizenship. Projects involve fun,
hands-on activities that motivate and involve students while offering a sense
of accomplishment and camaraderie.
