BREAKING NEWS! Chairman Tommy Stalnaker announces he will not be running for reelection

On Tuesday, February 15, Chairman Tommy Stalnaker announced that after 50 years of service to Houston County and its citizens, he will not be running for re-election in November.

Stalnaker said he will remain in his position until the end of the year.

“After much thought, prayer, and deliberation I have decided I will not seek reelection for Chairman of the Houston County Commissioners,” Stalnaker said. “My current term ends on December 31, 2022.”

Stalnaker has worked in Houston County for 50 years: 38 years as a employee to the city, and 12 years as a commissioner. When he transfers power in December, he will have served for three full terms.

“It has been my honor and privilege to work for the Citizens of Houston County,” Stalnaker said. “During my career I have been honored to work for and with thirty Houston County Commissioners, numerous Local, State, Federal elected officials and county employees and all have been exceptional.”

During his tenure, Stalnaker saw Houston County rise to new heights with exponential growth, an expanding population, broadening industry and a constant, good reputation for Houston County in the State of Georgia.

“I am proud to have been a part of the unprecedented county growth, numerous infrastructure projects and other improvements, and leaving the county’s financial situation very stable and without debt,” he said.

Stalnaker has not yet mentioned who will be running for his position in November. The work he has done for Houston County in his 50 years of service will not be forgotten by those he has worked closely with, nor the citizens he has helped over the years.

Even with his term ending at the end of the year, the Chairman says his work isn’t done yet.

“There is a lot of work to be done before the end of 2022, so together as a team we can continue to make dreams become reality,” Stalnaker said. “Thank you and I look forward to the next ten months being one of the most productive for Houston County.”
