More than 450 participants from Central Georgia joined the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s® and united in a movement to reclaim the future for millions at The Retreat of Southern Bridle Farms. Participants raised more than $153,000 to fund Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. Walk to End Alzheimer’s donations will be accepted through Nov. 30.

“One day we will end this disease,” says Tara Johnson, outreach director – Central Georgia Regional Office of Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter. “I know this because so many people throughout our Central Georgia region came together, raised over $153,000 and stood up to Alzheimer’s. But we will not stop here. We will continue to raise funds for Walk to End Alzheimer’s through November 30. If you missed the event, you can still donate to the Perry Walk.”

Watson-Hunt Funeral Home was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising more than $17,000. Draper Watson’s wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at age 63.

“The support I received from friends, family and my company was overwhelming,” says Draper Watson, team captain and owner of Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. “I know firsthand what Alzheimer’s does to a family and I want to help support this cause and help find a cure.”

Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants did more than complete the 1-mile walk. They learned about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities to clinical studies, support programs and services. The event also included an emotional tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s.
