The congregation of Cross Point Baptist Church is on a
mission to educated and house children in Tanzania through the Angel House
Orphanage and Angel Secondary School.
The orphanage began in 2005 with 30 children, now there are
60 people, ages 2 to 22, which live at the orphanage.
An informational sheet on the orphanage says the children
have been orphaned because of AIDS or malaria, or have been abandoned because
of poverty. The children have certain responsibilities, such as working in the
garden, and have the chance to go to school.
According to Holly Opundo, the secondary school, established
in 2011, provides education for students. Their education is funded by
scholarships sponsored by people living in the United States.
This summer a group of 15 people will be traveling to
Tanzania in July to help convert an old office building into a nursery school,
said Cheryl Spillers, who went to Tanzania last year with her daughter and two
other women to tutor students.
The church will also be hosting a 5K in downtown Perry on
March 2 called The Good Race. For more information on the race or the school
visit www.discovercrosspoint.net.
