Chief Judge Nunn to hear Georgia Supreme Court case

Chief Judge George F. Nunn Jr. of the Houston Judicial Circuit has been designated to serve in place of Justice Keith Blackwell in the appeal of Spectera, Inc. v. Wilson et al. (S12G1935.) The Supreme Court of Georgia will hear arguments in the case on Monday, July 1, during its 10 a.m. session.

In this Lowndes County case, a company that provides eye benefits is appealing a Georgia Court of Appeals decision that was mostly in favor of optometrists who sued the company. In addition to hearing arguments, Chief Judge Nunn will participate in the Court’s decision.

Chief Judge Nunn, 69, was appointed to the Houston Superior Court in 1986 by then Governor Joe Frank Harris. He has been re-elected six times. He served as a Municipal Court judge in Perry for six years. Prior to serving as a judge, he practiced law for 16 years at Mitchell, Clarke, Pate & Anderson in Atlanta from 1969 to 1972 and at Nunn, Geiger & Pierce in Perry from 1972 to 1986.

A graduate of Emory College and Emory Law School, Chief Judge Nunn is a past president of the Council of Superior Court Judges and president of the Perry Kiwanis Club. He also served on the Perry City Council for eight years.

Chief Judge Nunn is an active member of the Perry United Methodist Church, where he has taught Sunday school for 40 years and served as chairman of the Administrative Board and Board of Trustees. He and his wife, Janet, have two children and three grandchildren.
