Campbell makes impact at GC, Peach Belt event
There were more locally based heroics on a college softball conference tournament field in 2013.
Northside High’s Taylor Campbell, playing as a freshman for Georgia College in Milledgeville, broke a 3-3 tie in the 11th inning with a home run to give the Bobcats a victory against Francis Marion in the Peach Belt Conference tournament held in St. Augustine, Fla. The game took place May 20, and Campbell – starting as the designated player – also hit a double during her five at-bat line.

Georgia College (no longer using & State University in its name) entered the Peach Belt event as the No. 2 seed. Campbell and the Bobcats reached the finals, falling to Columbus State. It was against Columbus that Campbell made her only pitching performance of the season, and she struck out the only batter she faced in relief.
The Bobcat season continued at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
A member of the All-Peach Belt Tournament team, Campbell had a .316 average in 37 games (31-for-98). She had three home runs in all and 25 RBI.
