Bring Your Own Device walk through at FMMS and NHS

Feagin Mill Middle School and Northside High School will hold walk-throughs to showcase how Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is working in their schools.

The event will illustrate how useful, fun and inspirational the technology can be in the classroom. Feagin Mill Middle offers this opportunity Sept. 17 and 18, and Northside High will do the same on Sept. 19. Classroom tours will take place from 8:45 a.m. until 10 a.m.; a question and answer session will follow.

District administrators who have not yet implemented BYOD will have the opportunity to personally observe the benefits of BYOD.  Classroom visits will be led by system Curriculum Integration Specialists (CIS) who are providing technology support of this initiative.

BYOD is being phased-in systemwide this school year, beginning with seven schools the first nine weeks to include Feagin Mill Middle and Northside High. Nine more schools will be added the second nine weeks. The remaining schools will begin BYOD the second semester, with all 38 schools implementing the program by the beginning of the last nine weeks.

BYOD encourages students to bring their personal technology tools to school to use for learning. A voluntary program, teachers who so choose may invite their students to bring their laptops, smartphones, tablet computers, e-readers, etc. to school. The students’ personal devices will infuse even more technology into the classroom, complementing smart boards, desktops and document cameras already in use. Students will learn new ways to collaborate and interact with their teachers and classmates as they conduct research, solve problems, create products, and publish their work.

Feagin Mill is located at 1200 Feagin Mill Road in Warner Robins, and Jesse Davis serves as the principal. Northside High is located at 926 Green St.; Greg Peavy is the principal. For more information about the walk-throughs contact any of the three CIS – Mike Folse, Kendra McDaniel or Larry Wadsworth – at 478-988-6200 or CIS@hcbe.net.
