Bonaire Middle School (BMS) teacher Alice Mullis was named the 2013 Outstanding Teacher in Community Service by the Georgia Association for Career & Technical Education (GACTE). She was honored with a plaque and check during the annual conference held in Atlanta in July. She will represent Georgia for the CTE Region II competition. Previously Mullis had been chosen for this award by her affiliate, Georgia Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (GATFACS) and was presented a plaque. She then competed with other GACTE affiliates, ultimately being named the state winner.

Mullis teaches Family and Consumer Sciences courses and serves as chapter adviser to the BMS national award-winning Family, Career and Community Leader of America (FCCLA) Chapter and Georgia State FCCLA Officer. She began the BMS FCCLA Chapter in 2011.

Mullis has taught for more than 31 years in Georgia in both high school and middle school. Her many awards include Master and Mentor National FCCLA Adviser and Georgia Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Professional Teacher of the Year. She is a 2005 grant recipient for the Jason Project and 2006 alumni of the Professional Development Program in Food Science sponsored by the National Science Teachers Association and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In addition, Mullis has presented state and national workshops, webinars and STEM exhibits for the past six years for the FDA, GaDOE and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). She has served as a FCCLA local and state chapter adviser for 30 years and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Georgia FCCLA and the GATFACS.

She is married to Dale Mullis Sr., and they reside in Cochran.
