Bonaire MS champs in FFA Poultry evaluation
Special to the Journal
The Bonaire Middle School
Future Farmers of America junior poultry evaluation team won first place in the
Area III FFA Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event. The event was held at
the Dodge County Agriculture Center in Eastman on Feb. 13. The team qualified
for the state competition on March 23 at the University of Georgia.
Team members include Jake Bourke, Madison Smith, Garrett
Wurdeman and Ryan McDuffie.
Garrett also won second high individual. Cheralyn Keily is
their agriculture teacher and FFA advisor.
The Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event develops the
abilities of students to evaluate live poultry as well as poultry products in
order to optimize economic returns to producers and industry as well as to meet
the needs of consumers. The event motivates students to become knowledgeable
consumers of poultry and poultry products. Participants evaluate live birds,
identify retail cuts, grade carcasses and eggs on quality, and evaluate further
processed poultry products such as chicken patties and wings.
