The Perry Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Ashley’s Little Free Library May 24.

The Friends of Ashley Moore are the stewards for Ashley’s Little Free Library #4962 located in Roughton Park on Carroll Street in historic downtown Perry.

The Little Free Library is a movement started by Todd Bol and Rick Brooks in Wisconsin in 2010, and has grown to include little libraries in most states and dozens of countries. The Little Free Library’s mission is to:

· Promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchange worldwide.

· Foster a sense of community and connection as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations.

· Build more than 2510 libraries around the world (the number of “real” libraries built by Andrew Carnegie).

A large crowd was present for the ribbon cutting, which included family and friends of Ashley Moore, Mayor Jimmy Faircloth, City Councilmen William Jackson, Joe Posey and Randall Walker, Chamber chair Beth McLaughlin, members of the Chamber’s board of directors, and Chamber president/CEO Stacy Campbell.

During the ceremony, McLaughlin and Walker placed the first books in Ashley’s Little Free Library.

The books are free to anyone who wishes to use them. Guests can either return the book when finished or replace it with another book in good condition. Anyone who wishes to donate books can take them to the Coffee Cup on Carroll Street. For more information contact Terre Walker at 478-988-1223.
