Arrest made in connection to shooting at WR lounge
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A Warner Robins man has been arrested in connection to a homicide that took place early Tuesday morning.
According to the Warner Robins Police Department, at around 4:45 p.m. on June 28, 20-year-old Samba Diallo of Warner Robins was taken into custody at the 500 block of Northside Drive without incident and charged with Murder — Party to the Crime.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division assisted in the arrest, and the police department expects to make more arrests.
The shooting the arrest stems from happened at Cru Lounge on June 28. Officers were notified of a person shot at the lounge around 12:45 a.m.
According to the police department, the victim, identified as 24-year-old Shamair Mitchell, was involved in a physical altercation at the lounge that spilled over into the parking lot. Diallo was involved with the altercation as well.
In the parking lot, Mitchell was struck by gunfire from a different suspect and transported by private vehicle to Houston Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries around 1:30 a.m.
The incident was the third homicide that took place over the week; however, the police department does not believe they are connected.
Additionally, Sergeant Justin Clark with the Warner Robins Police Department does not believe these are random acts of violence.
Clark said: “With each of these cases they parties involved knew each other. There was no stranger-on-stranger violence. It wasn’t a random target.”
In a press conference on Tuesday, Police Chief John Wagner called on the community to find a more peaceful way to resolve conflict.
“This is not my city,” he said. “Our community is better than this. It’s not about pulling guns and solving your problems behind a gun, not by any means. That’s sad, I hate to see that’s the case.”
In the wake of the recent arrests made on these cases, Wagner also explained that the police department is working tirelessly.
“We have three cases, three very time-consuming and high resource cases that we’re working, and we’re bringing them to fruition,” he said. “The guys are tired, exhausted, but they’re coming in and they’re working hard because they care about this city. They care about the department. So I’m very pleased with that, and we’ll keep on working.”
The police department encourages anyone with more information on this incident to call Detective Scott Nix at (478) 302-5380 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
