The Lady Wildcats kept Westfield on their toes all night as they put players on base and played good defense.

Schley County started the first inning with a lead-off walk followed by a stolen base. One infield error by the home team and a double play later, the Lady Wildcats put their first run across the plate.

Westfield tied it up in the second inning on an RBI double.

In the third inning, Schley County scored on back-to-back at-bats, which made the score 3-1.

The Lady Hornets scored again in the fourth inning after their runner advanced from second to third and the next batter singled into the outfield, driving in the run.

The Lady Wildcats made it 4-2 off of an infield error at the top of the fifth inning.

The Schley County defensive game plan forced the Lady Hornets into numerous flyouts and groundouts throughout the night.

The Lady Wildcats mounted one last effort at the top of the seventh when they put runners in scoring position. However, it was to no avail as the Lady Hornets struck them out twice and forced a ground out to end the game.

Westfield coach Ryan Wetherington spoke highly of his players while exercising a bit of caution: “Offensively, we were able to battle, able to fight back. That is really all I can ask for out of them. Defensively, we’re struggling a little bit right now and making too many errors, which is uncharacteristic of us. Overall, I am proud of how they played. They continued to fight and did not give up. We have a good team and we are going to have a pretty good season this year.”
