Skincare salon gets BOOST

Mia Geigher got a surprise and a boost Friday at her skincare salon on Carroll Street in Perry.

Geigher, owner of Mia’s Skincare Salon, was presented a $250 check from BOOST Downtown Perry to purchase a steamer used for cleansing skin and activating facial masks and peels. Geiger was surprised Friday afternoon with a big check presentation, balloons and community members who wanted to congratulate her.

“This is the classic description of what the BOOST program is all about,” said David Grossnickle of Chick-fil-A.

City Council member Randall Walker told Geigher he was proud to be part of the BOOST program and to be able to help businesses like hers, and that the city will do more development in the downtown area in the coming year.

Geigher said she would like to thank Bryan Fountain for helping her business get started and “the baby boomers who like to stay and look young.”

Earlier this year, Davida’s Hair Salon and Tumblecheer Heroes each received $1,000 in the first round of awards. Davida’s grant helped with the cost of a new roof, while the grant to Tumblecheer Heroes aided with updating the business’ building façade.

BOOST Downtown Perry is an investment group that provides grant funds to entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses in the downtown development district. Investors, known as BOOSTers, donate $100 twice a year to fund the program. The Perry Downtown Development Authority, the Economic Restructuring Committee of Perry’s Main Street program, oversees the program, and BOOSTers vote on applications.

Applicants may apply for funds for purchasing supplies, business equipment, marketing and advertising, interior and/or exterior renovations, a security system or eligible professional services.

BOOSTed businesses, those who received the crowd-funded, micro-grants, receive a window cling to mark their participation in the program and to help publicize BOOST.
