Officials investigating collision between log truck and passenger bus

Traffic division officials with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating a Nov. 5 collision between a log truck and a passenger bus at the intersection of Green Street and GA Highway 247 in Warner Robins, according to a press release from Cpl. Michael Dixson with the department.

It was at around 12:30 p.m. on that on that Friday afternoon that the department’s E-911 Center received a call regarding the collision between a 2011 Peterbilt log truck and 2014 Blue Bird passenger bus, Dixson reported.

Patrick Alexander, lieutenant over the sheriff’s office’s traffic division, told Houston Home Journal that the incident is still under investigation, but department officials are sure the driver of the log truck ran a stoplight, causing the crash.

“We have that [incident] on video from two different angles,” Alexander shared.

According to the details of the report, Winston ONeal — the 53-year-old driver of the log truck — was heading northbound on Hwy. 247 when he ran the red light at the Green Street intersection and struck the bus.

The release noted that Layne McDonald, the 25-year-old driver of the bus, and his three passengers were all transported to Atrium Health Navicent where they are listed as being in stable condition. ONeal was also injured in the incident, according to the report.

If anybody knows any additional information to share with investigators regarding the collision, notify Deputy Gilbert with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 542-2080.
