Highway 247 to be shut down Sunday for aircraft transport
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Expect travel delays on Sunday morning as Robins Air Force Base transports aircraft to the Museum of Aviation.
According to an alert sent by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, a significant portion of Highway 247 will be closed from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. while the Sheriff’s Office assists with the move.
The base will be transporting an E-8C Joint Star aircraft along the highway, leading to a full closure of both southbound and northbound lanes due to the airplane’s size. Additionally, Ignico Drive, Green Street, Watson Boulevard, Martin Luther King Boulevard and Russell Parkway will be closed at their highway entrance points to accommodate.
Traffic exiting the base will also be affected.
The sheriff’s office advises to take an alternate route if possible.
