Herman “Paul” Busby

The world got a little less interesting, and heaven just got a whole lot rowdier.

November 14, 1957 – January 29, 2025

Well, y’all, the world got a little less interesting, and heaven just got a whole lot rowdier. With heavy hearts (and maybe a cold beer raised in his honor), we announce the passing of Herman “Paul” Busby. Born on November 14, 1957, in Fort Payne, Alabama, to the late Robbie Pope and Alvin Busby. Also, preceding him in death was his sister Vicky Busby.

Paul was a husband, a daddy, a Pawpaw, a brother, an uncle, and a friend—titles he carried with pride. For 33 years, Paul dedicated himself to Robins Air Force Base, working for the Base Restaurant as both a vending machine mechanic and supervisor. His coworkers knew him for his strong work ethic, quick wit, and ability to make even the most boring shift a little more entertaining.

Paul spent 43 years married to the love of his life, Diana Busby, who somehow managed to keep him in line (most of the time). Together, they raised two strong, independent daughters, Brittney McIntyre (Chris) and Brandy Rue (Regan), who will carry on his stubborn streak and love for family. His grandbabies, Hope and Dana McIntyre, were his pride and joy, and they knew no one could tell a better story or sneak them extra treats like Pawpaw.

He also leaves behind his siblings, Elaine Phillips, Janice Robinson, and Mark Busby—who have enough stories about his antics to last a lifetime.

In his free time, Paul loved the open road, whether it was a cross-country trip or just a drive to nowhere in particular. If there was a backroad, a good view, or a place to pull over for some boiled peanuts, he was there. He was happiest outside, breathing in fresh air, soaking up the sun, and chatting with old folks about “the way things used to be” (which, according to him, was always better).

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at Burpee Scott Memorial Chapel on 1/31/25 at 1pm for visitation, service starts at 2pm, and if you show up in anything fancier than jeans, he might just haunt you. In true Paul fashion, the family invites you to share your best stories, funniest memories, and maybe even a tall tale or two—because if there’s one thing Paul loved, it was a good story.

Though he’s no longer here to take the long way home or argue about which gas station has the best gas prices, Paul’s spirit, humor, and unconditional love will live on in all of us.

Rest easy, Paul. We’ll see you down the road.
