Dr. Eugene Triplet II is running for Perry City Council, District 3 Post 1.

Triplet is originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and has lived in Houston County for almost 5 years. Before moving to Perry, Triplet lived in Guyton for three years after moving from Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Triplet is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and has worked as an Executive Director for Nursing Homes and Transitional Care Units at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital. He also worked briefly with PruittHealth in Augusta.

Triplet is also a military veteran, married to his wife for over 26 years and has two kids.

Triplet and his wife moved to Perry to be closer to their jobs working for the VA. He said they were commuting a total of four hours each day to work from their home in Guyton.

“We’ve moved out here to be closer to the job, and it’s a nice area,” he said. “[Perry] reminded me of a suburb where it’s not too crowded but has a lot of different amenities and things to do.”

Triplet’s inspiration to run for city council stems from who he is. He described himself as an agent of change and wants to use his skills to benefit the City of Perry, such as increasing revenue to make it a better place.

An example Triplet mentioned would be small forms of entertainment, like a movie theater, a skating rink, or more restaurants and date-night activities in the city.

In terms of controlled growth in the City of Perry, Triplet would like to ask different communities whether to grow or not.

Another priority Triplet shared regarding growth is ensuring people have more quality homes and builders are liable for improvments.

“We need to have good quality and affordable homes by looking at the zoning regulations,” he added.

Triplet also shared that he has noticed some water issues at his home. If elected, Triplet said he would work with the Mayor, council and even Houston County to ensure the city has good water quality.

Triplet said he would also work with the local schools to ensure they are properly staffed.

“I notice a lot of these schools are being overcrowded. I think that we should make sure that if we do expand these communities, I would take a look at the schools as well to make sure they are not overcrowded,” he said.

With the cost of living being a significant topic in the City of Perry, Triplet suggested the city should attract more corporate business.

“I believe that this would increase the economy and reduce jobs and taxation on the homeowners,” he said. “If we do that, it’ll attract more businesses and restaurants. It may have more taxation on those businesses, and it should lower the residential taxation requirements in the millage rate. Perry has one of the higher millage rates in the county and the other cities, so I definitely want it to be reduced some.”

Triplet believes crime in the City of Perry is relatively low; however, he said the city should bring back some form of education within the school systems and meet with the Senior Resource Officers.

“I remember when I grew up, I had the D.A.R.E. program which it would teach you about drugs and alcohol,” he said.

One concern Triplet shared was the current federal administration’s reduction of the SNAP benefits. He believes this will increase the crime rate.

“When people are hungry and their basic needs are not being met, then it creates crime,” he said. “Maybe we can work with the local food banks to try and make sure people have meals to eat to reduce that crime.”

According to Triplet, his campaign is going great, and he said he still has a lot to learn, as this is his first time running for a government office.

“I’m learning a lot, and if I’m not selected this time, I definitely will pursue it next term,” he said.

If elected, Triplet said he would do his best while remaining non-partisan.

“I will make sure we hear the people because it’s our community and our voice,” he said. “If we come together, listen to each other and come to a happy medium, I like we will all get what we need and make Perry, Kathleen and surrounding areas a better place.”
