Car theft leads to other charges for suspect in Perry

A car theft at the Circle K convenience store at 285 Perry Pkwy. last weekend brought about multiple charges for one suspect.

Capt. Alan Everidge with the Perry Police Department (PPD) Patrol Division said the incident occurred after someone left their car at the gas pump to enter the store.

“A subject was seen with four other subjects getting out of a car in the parking lot waiting for the person to go in, and then entered the car that was at the gas pump and left the scene heading back towards [US] 341,” Everidge said.

Patrol units with the PPD and Houston County Sheriff’s Office were alerted of the incident after Perry 911 received a report of a crash at the intersection of Main Street and Perry Parkway.

“By the time my officers arrived there [at the crash], we got a call that a car had been stolen at the Circle K at 285 Perry Pkwy.,” Everidge said. “The car at 285 Perry Pkwy. theft was the car, in fact, that was wrecked at Main Street and Perry Parkway.”

According to Everidge, the suspect fled the scene of the crash, and a local resident notified the authorities of the suspect’s location.

“A resident in the area gave notification where the suspect may be hiding in a car,” Everidge said. “He was taken into custody, and the suspect was found to have marijuana, along with some identification and financial cards under different names.”

The suspect — Brian Keith Thompson, Jr. — was charged with Theft in Taking Motor Vehicle, Entering an Auto, Damage to Government Property, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute and Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Everidge said.

Following this, Thompson was transported to Houston County Detention Center.
