American made American flags will soon fly over Watson and Russell
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The Rotary Club showed patriotism and city support during their most recent meeting on Tuesday.
At the meeting, Rotary Club Club presented Mayor LaRhonda Patrick and members of the fire department with a $1,600 check to cover the purchase of American flags around the city.
The donation came to be through a passion project of Rotary Club Member Jim Sehorn. Described by Warner Robins Rotary President Les Arent as a solid American citizen, the retired Air Force Brigadier General wanted to mitigate blight on Watson Boulevard and Russell Parkway.
Noticing the American flags lining the street were worn, Sehorn connected with the fire department, and then told Arent he wanted to buy new flags for the streets.
Arent tasked him with finding a manufacturer and Sehorn found a national based company to make the four by six foot flags that will soon fly overhead, ensuring the American flags are American made.
As Arent described, Sehorn also plans on placing a personal spin on the flags when he delivers them to the fire department.
“When they come in, he’s going to give those flags to the fire department and he himself has handmade, hand stitched, out of some kind of pretty heavy duty fabric, covers for each flag. As it’s folded up and it’s put away, it’ll be covered. General Sehorn did that himself,” Arent said.
As the new flags wear down, Arent said the club also plans on replacing them.
The club is feeling great about their efforts; Arent explained that with a rich military history in the region, the new flags flying will show the region’s patriotism to those passing through and will continue to be a symbol for freedom and the constitution.
“We love Warner Robins and so it’s just important to us. To makes sure that when people come traveling through middle Georgia and they see American flags, they know that that’s part of what the Warner Robins Rotary Club does, and that’s what America is all about,” Arent said.
Starting in 1955, the Warner Robins Chapter of the Rotary Club is seeing more growth in membership and holds several events and fundraisers throughout the year, keeping with their mission of “service above self.” To stay up to date on the Warner Robins Chapter, visit https://www.facebook.com/wrrotary
