Buzzard Drop still on, rain or clear

The third annual Buzzard Drop, scheduled for Thursday night, is still a go, said Susan Scragg, Perry Main Street Advisory Board chairman. The event is set to run from 7:30 p.m. until 1 a.m. in downtown.

The possibility of inclement weather was discussed at a Monday meeting with police and fire department officials, she said, and the event is moving forward.

“If the emergency team determines there will be a problem, we will take care of it,” Scragg said. “The safety of everyone is our most important issue.”

The weather forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of rain in the morning, tapering off in the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

To minimize the impact on downtown businesses, all street closings will take place Thursday on the following schedule:

Carroll Street from Jernigan Street to Ball Street (800 block) will be blocked beginning at 2 p.m. as will Ball Street from Main Street to Commerce Street and Jernigan Street from Main Street to Carroll Street

5:30 p.m.: Carroll Street from Marion Street to Washington Street and Jernigan Street from Carroll Street to Commerce Street

Admission to the Buzzard Drop is free. “We’re still a go and encourage everyone to come out and have a good time,” Scragg said.
