President Walker: Perry Mayor elected President of Georgia Municipal Association

PERRY, Ga. – The city of Perry has been honored once again and their very own Mayor Randall Walker was elected as president of GMA.

The association gathered from June 23 to the 27 at their annual convention in Savannah. Every county in the state meets every year to be involved in engaging conversations and training for city officials and local leaders in the state.

This convention was also the announcement of the previous President stepping down from her role. Mayor Walker has been involved in the association for 14 years and served as one of the Vice President for three years.

Walker said he has been a very involved and active member in the organization. He added he has served many roles and discussions in improving the state.

The years of experience paid off and he was elected as the new president at the convention.

“I feel well prepared and I’m very excited about having the opportunity to lead the organization,” said Walker.

He said the GMA is a very well-structured organization and will be working with the CEO and Executive Director to run the board meetings and convention meetings. That is not the only thing he plans to do with his role, he “Providing affordable housing for people throughout the state will be one of our objectives and the other, more personal to me, is literacy. Our Rotary Club here in Perry is working very hard on literacy within our Elementary schools and so is GMA throughout the state. My top priority will be to continue to promote literacy in our Elementary schools throughout Georgia,” said Walker.

Walker said he is excited that this position will give him the opportunity to lead all 537 counties in the state. This will be a big responsibility for the mayor, but he is confident in working with the organization and their staff, who he said does 99% of the work.

He said the city of Perry has been an active member in the GMA and participates in a lot of its programs. He hopes, with his new role, that he will bring honor to Perry and continue to improve his city and the entire state.
