Vaude Lee Cross

Perry, GA – Vaude Lee Cross, 77, passed away on February 10, 2018, at Medical Center Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia, after waging a courageous and determined three-year battle with cancer. He was born in Unadilla, Georgia and lived his entire life in middle Georgia. Lee was a man of many talents and skills. He worked in a number of vocations: butcher, finish carpenter and home builder, and civil service planner. His main occupation, and the one for which he was best known in and around Perry, was that of most excellent barber. He also was a bit of an inventor, developing and producing a special “green light” known for attracting fish. Unbeknownst to few, Lee was also a guitarist and a pretty good piano player.

He attended high school in Dooly County, later completing courses in numerous subjects at Middle Georgia State College in Cochran. For most of his life, being the self-starter and entrepreneur that he was, Lee was self-employed. He truly enjoyed figuring out how things worked and translating that knowledge into his own business ventures. During the period of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Lee served in the National Guard. He served God as a member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Warner Robins.

Lee was predeceased by his parents, Carl Evans Cross and Dorothy Hollingsworth Cross, as well as his son, Vaude Lee Jr. (“LeeLee”) and his sister, Jean Stokes of Perry. He is survived by Barbara Cross, his devoted wife of 55 years, and his beloved son, David Cross (Angie) of Byron. His other surviving family members are his brothers, Carl Cross (Jean) of Unadilla and Wayne Cross (Julie) of Clover, SC, and sisters, Alice Coleman (Gary) of Charleston, SC and Pat Barton (Frank) of Charleston, SC. Lee also had a large extended family, all of whom will miss him dearly.

On Wednesday, February 14, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., the family received friends for visitation at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 S. Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088. Services were held at the chapel of the McCullough Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, with a graveside committal service which followed at Magnolia Park Cemetery, 205 S. Pleasant Hill Road, Warner Robins.
