Perry Fire Department hosts first Coffee and Conversation

PERRY, Ga. — The City of Perry Fire Department hosted its first Coffee and Conversation event at its Fire Headquarters.

The fire station was open to the public from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. for attendees to start their morning learning about their local fire department. They also provided attendees with Bodega Brew coffee and donuts.

The event allowed citizens to ask their local chief officers questions, including Fire Chief Lee Parker, Assistant Fire Chief Kirk Crumpton, Fire Training Chief Charles Mundy, Fire Prevention Chief Ephraim Wheeler, and Fire Marshall Darryl Kitchens.

Fire Chief Lee Parker said people could ask questions about the fire department, emergency response, and anything they wanted to know about the community that they could answer.

Parker said they could ask questions on a large array of subjects, like what a business needs to know about fire protection to start up, how to get a fire station tour for a kid’s group, and what kind of training the firefighters do every year. He shared that they are happy to answer the community’s questions.

According to Parker, one of the goals of the city’s strategic plan is to be transparent and answer any questions from the public. He said this is an event they have noticed other police departments and the Robins Air Force Base hosting, which they took inspiration from.

“It’s just something that we saw, and we want to be open to the public and just be transparent and answer any questions they may have,” said Parker.

He also hopes the community will see that their local fire department is open and available 24/7. Parker wants everyone to know that their fire chiefs are also available throughout the week and wants to make sure they know they are there to answer any questions.

Parker said he looks forward to answering questions and getting to know the public.

“We’re looking forward to the opportunity to do this, and if it’s a success, then we’ll probably do it again at one of our other fire stations,” said Parker.
